Honouring a Great Phobian – Joseph Ato Quagraine
By: Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe
I have struggled with this piece ever since I heard the news of the passing of a truly committed servant of the Oak Tree, Joseph Ato Quagraine, Chairman of the NCC, of which I was Financial Controller. Chairman Ato led us to win our first ever, and only Champions League trophy, the Super Cup and numerous league titles. So unassuming, he led by quiet example and allowed some of us, with our youthful exuberance to take the media limelight whilst he engineered a vibrant Chapters front.
I learned so many things from Big Joe, as we affectionately called him and it is so painful to see him depart this earth.
There’s so much I could say but I will save that for later. For now, I just want to recollect an awesome gesture that Big Joe extended to me: After I had contested him in the NCC election and won, Ato Quagraine came to our swearing in and ceremoniously handed over the baton of leadership to me…. that was the essence of his decency and commitment to the Oak Tree. Indeed, my heart is very heavy but God knows best.
May the angels bear you up across the radiant rainbow, Phobian warrior!!!
Big Joe, May your gentle but powerfully determined Phobian soul rest in perfect peace.
